Spreading Our Wings

Well we did it, we finally moved into college, after all the preparation and all of the heartfelt goodbyes, we are here. Now we have classes (that means homework) to take care of and clothes to wash, and of course, noisy neighbors to be annoyed with! Our neighbors are actually pretty awesome so far, and we hope they will be good friends for our entire college career. But, best of all, we get to say that we are part of the University of Oregon, and we go to classes with athletes the likes of LaMichael James. (Delany actually has a lecture with him, and Hanna saw him walking home, as well as Daren Thomas.) Classes are completely different than high school, yet the same, you still want to understand the teacher, and while you’re secretly interested in the subject, you don’t want to come off as a nerd, and you have to sit with the cool kids or with your friends. And while being away from home is fun, it’s also scary and uncomfortable when we want the safety net and realize that it’s not there. We are on our way to making it on our own, although we openly admit that we will need our parents for something forever, these are just the first steps to making it in the big time, but right now it’s time to just spread our wings and test the air.

Mind you, that we both live in Oregon and know what the weather is like, however this list does not represent all colleges. We recommend that you create a list that fits your college and most importantly yourself.  It can’t be stressed enough to create a list that fits your personal needs, because not everyone has the same needs, when it comes to living. 1 Box, 2 Box, 3 Box, 4?

Packing. Packing in general sucks, whether it involves unpacking or packing.  It just simply sucks because no matter how long or how short your packing list is, you will either over pack or under pack and then there’s a possibility that you overlooked the list and forgot key items that are essential for your trip.  Which in that case, you have to make the trip to a store to get the so called item that you forgot, which then you pay tax (thankfully Oregon has no TAX, yet J)  because ten to one your out of your home state.  Now, you’re probably wondering why Hanna is ranting above, well it’s because we are packing for COLLEGE!  Packing for college, is BEYOND different than packing of Europe, Disneyland, Mexico and the Bahamas.  While those trips lasted from a weekend to three weeks, college last for about 9 months give or take and it’s just not clothes we have to pack.  Since we are college roommates, we decided that Hanna would bring the TV, and her Uncle and Aunt were very nice enough to donate a refrigerator to us, which we appreciate enormously.   Besides the TV and the refrigerator, there is bedding, school supplies, bathroom supplies, clothes, shoes, rain gear (it rains for the better half of the year) and miscellaneous items.   Look forward to our next post, when we put our personal packing list/ guide for college.

After eating dinner at Curry in a Hurry, we got our fortune cookies, and it happened. The  Thai food Gods revealed their plan for our college experience, here is what they had to say...

Adults at Last!

Today, the 29th of August Hanna celebrates her 18th birthday. Whoohoo. She joins Delany in the many exiciting adventures that are ADULTHOOD. (note to the adults who have experienced life, feel free to pass on words of wisdom inthe comment box. DON'T HOLD BACK) This is just one of the many steps, before the final leap into college. WE are excited to celebrate with Hanna, as she enters adulthood. (We also want to acknowledge that it is the king of pop's BDAY as well, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICHAEL JACKSON)

218 square feet of pure "duckiness"

It has been eight long months since we filled out the room and board application for the University of Oregon, and we're pleased to say WE FINALLY GOT IT. Wohoo!!!  No more drooling over the IKEA catalog, creepin the pages of Bed Bath and Beyond for deals on linens and most importantly no more running out to the mail box once the delivery women has turned on to the other street.  Now, you may be thinking who on earth does any of this? Well, getting your room assignment is one of the many important stepping stones of college.  For us, this will be our home for about 9 months.  It’s quite nerve-racking to take in because for 18 years we have lived under the roof of our parents, have had home cooked meals by our lovely mothers (note, to our dad’s we do appreciate when you cook us meals, even if you ruin a favorite food such as Mac & Cheese.) as we move forward from our comfy homes to our 218 square foot dorm room, we look forward to the change that awaits us, including noisy neighbors, thin walls, cramped space, and two messy girls (sorry moms, you've tried to teach us  cleanliness, but sadly we haven't absorbed anything!!) WOOHOOOO

The Beginning of the Future!!

As we sit and begin this adventure, called college, we ask that you have patience as we get used to blogger, since neither of us are what you would call computer savvy. This blog will follow our personal experiences  while attending the U of O, not every story is the same, so remember we are just two students out of 22,000 ducks :)
